Mt. Adams VetsWork Intern Spotlight: Fisheries Video by Delbert Henson
This wonderful video was produced by Delbert Henson, a MKWC Fisheries Technician and VetsWork intern, and showcases his appreciation and understanding of the work he has been doing over the last year.
In March of this year MKWC began hosting our first VetsWork intern, Delbert Hensen, a local Hornbrook raised fishhead who served four years in the US Marine Corps. VetsWork is a career development internship program administered by Mt. Adams Institute out of Trout Lake, WA, and serves US military veterans, placing them in natural resource positions throughout the West. The program came to us via Bob Pagliuco and Leah Tolley out of the Arcata NOAA Restoration Center, where Bob and Leah have developed and sourced funding for this program since 2012. The program, until recently, was funded through Americorps and currently is in funding limbo due to recent federal cuts to the AmeriCorps program. Fortunately for us, enough funding has been secured to extend Delbert’s 12-month term to 20 months. Post-term, Delbert would like to pursue a college degree in aquatic sciences, although we’d prefer he stick around to continue the great work on his home river!
Delbert works out of the MKWC’s Happy Camp office, where he shares desk space with his twin sister Maggie, a regular part time Fisheries Technician with MKWC Fisheries. Together they are, no doubt, wonder twins, and we appreciate every bit of the good work they have provided the program, the river, and the Klamath River communities.
