Water Conservation Program

Drip Irrigation Workshop in Happy Camp
|
MKWC is dedicated to improving water conservation and efficiency
in the Mid Klamath subbasin.
Instream flows are one of the most critical fisheries needs.
Adequate water in our rivers and streams acts to lower temperatures,
dilute pollutants, provide more habitat, prevent the spread of fish
diseases, and lower opportunities for predation.
MKWC conducts outreach to landowners in the Mid Klamath subbasin,
providing practical and informational workshops, access to water
conservation publications and grant programs, as well as assistance
with developing water conservation proposals.
Current Water Conservation projects include:
- Drip Irrigation & Water Efficiency workshops. Four drip
irrigation systems have been installed in prominent public areas
(Forks of Salmon Elementary School, Somes Bar Store, Klamath Knot
Arts Council, and Happy Camp Community Garden) and several
workshop participants have installed their own home drip
irrigation systems.
- MKWC has gathered, reviewed and edited several educational
materials on water efficiency, including: Drip Irrigation Design
and Water Education Foundation Publications (including the
Water Conservation Tipsheet, Water Facts brochure, Landscape
Design Brochure, and Drought Survival Kit).
- Outreach to private landowners about EQIP grants from the
Natural Resources Conservation Service.
