Sudden Oak Death Blitz
The SOD BLITZ planned for May 13 is postponed to Saturday, June 24 in observance of Funeral Services in Happy Camp and out of respect for the family.
Join the Karuk Tribe and MKWC to learn more about the pathogen that causes Sudden Oak Death and the impacts it will bring to our community. This plant disease can kill tanoak trees, but is not yet known to be present in the middle Klamath. Now is the time to mobilize as a community to do what we can to prevent its introduction and to be prepared for its eventual arrival.
The SOD Blitz is our Community Coming Together in the Fight Against Sudden Oak Death (SOD). Our event in Orleans is part of a larger effort through the state of California and contributes important scientific data on this problem to a UC Berkeley research lab (https://nature.berkeley.edu/garbelottowp/?page_id=148).
Meet at Karuk Tribe DNR at 10am for a brief introduction to the pathogen and the disease. Participants will then disperse to look for disease symptoms on tanoak and bay trees near their homes or improtant places.
